Sorrie Street, Balmain
Our home in Sorrie Street was verging on the derelict when we bought it in July 2010. In took us 4 years to get it how we wanted it, and now we have a comfortable home that blends original features with a contemporary feel.
We only rent out the house when we are not there, so guests get to use the whole place, except for our bedroom. Upstairs this includes a spacious bedroom, with a top quality queen-size bed and built in wardrobes, the bathroom, with a large shower and plentiful on demand hot water, and the study, with its comfy 'egg' chair.
Downstairs there is a very well appointed kitchen with induction hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and double oven; under the stairs is a laundry cupboard with a washer/dryer and a second loo. The marble "tulip" style dining table seats 4 and the sitting room has a big lounge and a Parker Knoll armchair - ideal for cozying up in front of the TV and gas fire on cooler nights.
All rooms have near silent, "eco", fans and the bedrooms have plantation shutters to keep the house cool on even the hottest of days. We like our temperatures mild, so there are plenty of heaters to warm the house up in the colder weather.
The entertaining space at the back is a great suntrap and if it gets too hot, the motorized awning covers the complete deck.
