Wonderfully Welcoming

Bundanoon is a great base for exploring the Southern Highlands or for a relaxing break - spending time in and around the village, with its great cafes, small selection of interesting shops, some great historical buildings and the famous Glow-worm Glen. Close-by attractions include Morton National Park, lots of great wineries and cellar doors and the historic villages of Berrima, Burrawang and  Robertson. Additionally,  Bowral, with its excellent Don Bradman museum, is only 20 minutes away.

Families who have lived in the village for generations mix well with those who have  chosen to move to the country from Sydney and Canberra to form a wonderfully vibrant community.  There is always something happening in Bundanoon, often organised by the very active Bundanoon Community Association.

We stumbled upon Bundanoon by accident, when looking for a country escape after an AirBnB weekend with friends in Bowral, and fell in love with the village instantly. That love has grown with time. It is a truly welcoming place that is stunning whatever the season. Cold crisp days with clear blue skies are a standard of the winter months; autumn is an ever-changing landscape of yellows, browns and oranges as the leaves fall; summer is green and vibrant; and spring ...... well, spring is a blaze of colour as beautiful blossom welcomes the warmer weather.

Eating Out

If you don't feel like cooking, there is a wide variety of places to eat in the village. During the day, the Jumping Rock and Potters Pantry are great for coffee, bread, pies salads and pastries. The Deli has a selection of cakes, cheeses and cold meats. The
Olde Bicycle Cafe serves a wide made to order menu.

In the evening, the Chinese provides great value country Chinese, the Bundanoon Pizza has a substantial and tasty menu, and the pub has good solid pub grub. The pub is currently being renovated after being acquired by a man with a solid reputation for running good country pubs, so we look forward to trying it on our return.

For something more upscale, try the Dining Room at the Bundanoon Guesthouse.

Exercise

If you like fitness, there are some great walks, bike rides and runs in and around Bundanoon. The Morton National Park has walks for all abilities and views to rival the Blue Mountains (without the crowds); there are some challenging mountain bike trails (Bundanoon is the home of the famous Highland Fling), and James will leave some running maps in the house, with picturesque routes from 4 to 20km+

If Yoga is your thing, or even if it's not, yet,  the wonderful Mel Sharpe usually keeps us a slot from 9 - 10 am on a Sunday when she can be booked to come to the house and help you stretch off after a weekend of excess. Mel makes these sessions as easy or hard as you like and doing yoga in the garden, with the sounds of the birds in the back ground is a wonderful way to start a day. You can check Mel out at www.sharpfitness.com.au.

Things To Do

Bundanoon is lucky to have a very active and talented Community Association who keep the village interesting. A Makers Market is held in the village hall every other Sunday; every couple of months there is a film night in the same hall, and there are regular concerts, plays and talks. The highlight of the year is Brigadoon, when the town becomes Scottish and massed pipe bands, highland dancers and about 20,000 visitors descend to enjoy a spectacular and surreal day.
