The Southern Highlands is one of the most beautiful places in NSW to be in autumn, with its’ amazing display of colour and cool crisp mornings. The area has had a tough year but just as the summer rain has helped the local bush bounce back from the ravages of last years’ fires, making it even better to visit, there is now a great opportunity for visitors to the Highlands to help small local businesses and Artisans bounce back too!
Only 1.5 hours from Sydney and Canberra, the Southern Highlands relies heavily on tourism, and 2020 has been tough. So, when a Highlands couple, James and Jodie, decided that a redundancy early in the pandemic should be viewed as an opportunity, they put their minds to seeing what they could do to help. As James says, “many small businesses are struggling while lots of people in the city want to buy local but don’t know how, so we saw an opportunity to use our skills to connect local artisans to their supporters”. A brainstorming session later, City+Sticks was born. Showcasing the work of over 70 amazing Australian makers, artists and creators, City+Sticks is now your one stop shop for beautifully made, slow made, ethically made wares in the Southern Highlands.
James and Jodie would love all visitors to be able to find something special at City+Sticks for themselves, their home and all their friends and family (including pets!). They are delighted that since November, over 2,500 one of a kind, artisan made items have found new homes, in Australia and around the world.
